So I started working on Monday....and yes, we are all still alive over here. :) It is going pretty well- Brenton is just extremely clingy to me after I get home in the evenings. He spent a little more time than usual with daddy this week, and spent some time with Great Grandma Lota and Great Grandpa Bob, and today our friend Aimee is coming over with her 4 year old, Quenton. Quenton LOVES Brenton so they should have a great time, and Brenton should still get his nap and down time while Quenton goes to preschool. Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers as we are trying to figure things out and for all of your help if you are helping!
Otherwise, we have been enjoying the weather- except when it is raining. On Earth Day we went to the zoo before I had to go to work and I got to plant a broccoli plant, an alleged "cauliflower" plant, a pansy, some wild sunflower seeds, and some tomato seeds. It was WAY more fun for me than for Brenton- but he was pretty excited that there was a total of about 6 billion people at the zoo that day, mostly small elementary school children. Guess what, though- my broccoli is already growing!!!! Times two- because that alleged "cauliflower" plant is actually broccoli!
We went to see Great Great Grandma Frances last night and hung out with all the "Greats" on that side for a while and it was really fun. Brenton is really picking things up VERY quickly now, so just in the time that we were there he stood WITHOUT HOLDING ON for a few short moments, learned how to put a cup over his mouth and make funny noises with daddy, and learned how to blow bubbles into the cup as you are taking a drink....all thanks to daddy. :) It is literally getting to the point that Brenton can see something one time and immediately repeat it-- INCREDIBLE!
Ok...no pictures today, but I will post more soon! Have a good rest-of-the-week! And come visit me at Emprise Bank Saturday morning!

sick... :(
Brenton was sick about 3 days last week and it has been pretty yucky. I think maybe there's a flu-bug or virus going around, but I think we're at the tail end of it. He was a little trooper, but I think he is much happier not-sick.
I can't remember what I posted last time and I can't read it as I am typing this new post so sorry if I repeat myself. Brenton's newest accomplishment that I am still fairly shocked about is that he can now pull himself up into a standing position!!!! I am pretty sure this is one of the for-sure signs of pre-walking and it does not stop there!! Within just a handful of times of doing this he also started side-stepping and shuffling himself a little and can make it down the couch a little (or whatever he is holding on to)! Oh friends....it does not stop there, either!! He also has let go with one hand and continued to try and step a little!!! I cannot believe how quickly he progressed from pulling up on the back of the couch, to doing it anywhere, to shuffling/side-stepping, to letting go and only holding on with one hand--- seriously he just pulled up for the first time at the end of last week and it is only Wednesday! WOW! He is a smart little monkey! I have also noticed lately how much he is recognizing words and phrases....and I am not just talking about momma and dadda. The other day he was bouncing in his bouncer and he had one arm up grabbing for toys and one arm just hanging down by the leg hole at his side (he used to do this a lot when he was younger) and I laughed and said "where is your other arm?" and he looked straight down at his arm and pulled it up! I seriously am in awe daily at what this kid can do!
So...we tried for a little photo shoot in the beautiful 75 degree weather today, but sadly there were several distractions....the grass....the cats....the flowers blowing in the wind...the wind in general....and the sun, of course. :) Here are a few, though.

Well I have not been able to catch him in the act yet...of clapping, I mean...but I will definitely keep trying. Twice now in the bathtub Brenton has pulled himself to the side and pulled up onto his knees! A little scary considering he is in the bathtub- but not too scary considering his tub is only like 8 inches tall or something. BUT...this morning he did it on the couch!! I ran into the kitchen to throw something away and turned around and he was standing up holding on to the back of the couch!! If the camera would have been upstairs I would have taken a picture- I'm bummed that I missed the photo opp.
Here are a couple of recent pictures from our trip to mommy's friends' baby shower and a visit with Brenton's buddy Mason, our visit with Grandpa Matt and Grandma Tammy, Aunt Maranda, Aunt Moriah, and Aunt Michelle and our family visit to the park last weekend when it was like 70 degrees and beautiful!

8 Months!
So we've passed the 8 month mark, which leaves only 4 short months before Brenton turns the big 1! And thank you, KU, for celebrating with us yesterday! :) Brenton has been so excited for KU that he started clapping Saturday night during their Final Four game!!!!! It is SO CUTE! I know I say that about everything- but to see his little hands go together and to see that big grin on his face- I'll try and get a video of it on here! He also is waving bye-bye and hi more often now, but chooses when he wants to wave or to clap. The first time he waved was on Easter Sunday and since then he has done it a little more every week. Many times he will stick his arm and hand out in front of him almost like an Indian "how" and then flaps it up and down a little in the air. I love it- he is so smart!!
At 8 months he has also passed the 21 pound mark and is looking like a little toddler. He still does not have any teeth, but is eating table food very well-- gummin' it the whole way! This morning he ate pancakes and peaches for breakfast with me :). He loves chicken noodle soup and I couldn't feed him my pot roast with potatoes and carrots fast enough last week. It is really interesting to me that he prefers "big people" food that is seasoned over anything plain- he even likes Mexican food already (a kid after our own hearts)!! I actually dipped a cheerio in a tiny bit of salsa this weekend and he wanted more! You all might think I am crazy, but I want him to enjoy a variety and not be a picky eater so I am letting him try many things. Of course we are not feeding him pixy-sticks full of sugar and potatoe chips full of fat- we are trying to be consistent for ourselves and for him to be very healthy, but holy cow- baby food is pretty blllllaaaahhhh when you see a whole table of yummy stuff in front of you!
I'll post pictures soon....in the meantime ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!!

Well, I am going to include a lot of pictures for you in this post, but I would also like to write a few things first. I am now employed and will start working part-time at Emprise Bank on April 21. While I have mixed emotions about leaving Brenton and searching for someone to take care of him when Travis' and my schedule collide, I am SO excited about a paycheck and benefits that I have already called and made myself a much awaited eye doctor and dentist appointment! And I hate the dentist! So...please be praying for us as we have several big changes in the works.
On a much more fun note- Brenton's newest accomplishments include this adorable kissy-fishy face/noise that he does constantly now and his own realization that standing up on his own is hard work. The kissy-fishy face is really cute- you can say to him something like "give me a kiss" and make a kissy face to him, or ask him "what does the fishy say?" and open and close your lips like a fish and he just giggles and then starts making a similar face back! Even with the little pop pop pop sound that your lips make when doing that. His realization that standing up on his own is hard work is not as fun-- but just as entertaining. He'll grab onto my hands and without me lifting him he'll push and grunt and groan and usually scream until he is standing up...and then he smiles and laughs with this face that looks like "yeah, I know I'm good!". It cracks me up! And then often times he'll try and move his feet- and when he realizes that I am not helping him gain the momentum to move forward he starts to scream and throw a little fit because he wants it to be easier than it really is. This little screaming because he is not getting/achieving something he wants has become VERY familiar to us. Brenton has definitely learned that screaming is a fairly effective way of communicating when you can't use words and I have realized how difficult it is to begin parenting/teaching/discipling a tiny little not-even-8-month-old baby!!!! A couple of days ago while I was feeding him lunch he started pulling his bib to the side to pull it off and every time he would look at me and grin and every time I would say something like "Brenton the bib is to stay on" and move it back to its proper place. He knew exactly what was going on and had the most mischievous grin the entire time! I am just amazed at how quickly he is figuring things out!!
Ok....now for the pictures!

My new BFF

My first year of Easter Bunnying it up as a mama!

He loved the eggs....and the candy through the wrappers!

"Let me pull your clothes off, Cousin Korbin"

Brenton got several Easter baskets full of goodies. Grandma Tammy got him a set of Dr. Suess books- these were mommy's favorite growing up.

Great Grandma and Grandpa put up a swing for the little guy and he LOVES it! We pushed him really high- he is a little dare-devil! And when the swing would slow down he would kick his legs like crazy for more!

And then one day we ran into our friends Mike and Brandi at lunch and Mason and Brenton had a little reunion!

I can't think of any good April Fools! :(
I've been trying to think all day of April Fools jokes that Brenton and I could play on people....and I just can't think of any good ones. The only thing that comes to mind is to announce that I am pregnant again....
But I just don't think that would be a funny-haha joke to everyone.
So- Happy April Fools- and please don't start any rumors!!
I have several pictures I would like to post, but for now I'll leave you with these:
Brenton's first car- from the Easter Bunny- it turns into a push-walker also
-and-
Brenton and Grandpa Matt- I think they look so much alike! And how about that hat??!
